Want, decide, plan, hope và promise thường đi với to + động từ nguyên mẫu khi động từ sau là bổ ngữ trong các mẫu đang học.
💡 Khi nói muốn, quyết định, dự định, hi vọng hoặc hứa làm gì, dùng want, decide, plan, hope hoặc promise rồi thêm to và từ chỉ hành động. Ví dụ: decided to share là đã quyết định chia sẻ.
Bố mẹ tôi quyết định chia việc nhà đều hơn.
⚠️ Không dùng decided sharing hoặc decided to sharing. Học cụm decide to do something, không chỉ học nghĩa từng từ.
Verbs followed by gerunds
Enjoy, avoid, finish và mind đi với V-ing khi theo sau là một hành động. Động từ đầu mang thì; dạng V-ing giữ theo mẫu bổ ngữ.
💡 Sau enjoy, avoid, finish và mind, nếu nói đến một hành động thì thêm đuôi -ing vào từ chỉ hành động đó. Ví dụ: enjoy cooking là thích nấu ăn; avoid using phones là tránh dùng điện thoại.
Chúng tôi thích nấu ăn cùng nhau và tránh dùng điện thoại trong lúc đó.
⚠️ Không dùng enjoy to cook hoặc avoid to use trong mẫu này. Quá khứ là enjoyed cooking, không phải enjoyed cooked.
Verb patterns: choosing the complement
Chọn dạng bổ ngữ theo động từ đứng trước: want to learn nhưng enjoy learning; finish writing nhưng plan to write. Không có quy tắc mọi động từ đều theo cùng một dạng.
💡 Khi hai từ chỉ hành động đi liền nhau, từ trước quyết định dạng của từ sau. Ví dụ: want to learn là muốn học, còn enjoy discussing là thích thảo luận; cần học từng cụm như vậy.

⚠️ Một số động từ như like/love nhận cả V-ing và to-infinitive; không áp dụng nhầm quy tắc chỉ V-ing của enjoy cho tất cả động từ chỉ sở thích.
